Bryce Canyon Half Marathon and 5K

I was able to spend July 12-13 with my family in Tropic/Bryce Canyon so the girls, Tara, Janny and Hope, could run the Bryce Canyon Half Marathon.  Mom and I ran the 5K.  I was a little bit nervous to drive somewhere new on my own, but I got to take Caleb along and we met up with Tara, Colby, Ava, Gavin and Connor.  We even drove through a crazy rain storm and I did okay. :) Mom, Dad, Janny and Hope came later that night.  We relaxed at Colby's grandma's house in Tropic.

We decided to do a little hike to the Mossy Caves before everyone got there and it was a great hike. I was a little tired from being out of shape and pregnant but it was a fun hike. The landscape was beautiful and the Hoodoos (rock formations) were really cool.

We had a pasta dinner and tried to rest that evening, but we didn't end up getting much sleep because we were waiting for Mom, Dad, Janny, Hope and Lexie to come. A little bit after we saw them drive by the house we thought they had gotten lost, but then we got a phone call that they had hit a deer.  Seriously?!  It was super scary. The deer hit right on the hood and rolled off the passenger side.  Mom was very very lucky it didn't come through the windshield. We know they were very blessed. The girls in the back were terrified so I drove to pick them up.  After they piled into my car, the sheriff shined his light in the car and said, "You guys with them?" We just cracked up laughing...."No, they just hopped in the car of a total stranger." hahaha Everyone was a bit shaken up but no injuries so that was a plus!  Nobody slept well that night though.

The morning of the race went pretty smoothly. Those who were running the half marathon had to be up and ready for the buses really early. Mom and I got to sleep in a little bit longer.  I was nervous that was going to be nauseous that morning and not have a lot of energy but I felt pretty good, even for being almost 22 weeks pregnant.  I had to pee a lot though!  I was so happy they had lots of porta-potty's!  I had to pee before the race...twice, once during the race (lucky me that they had them halfway through) and then after the race. I really felt good running. I used a little support band to keep baby boy from bouncing all over the place and that helped a ton. I am not sure what our time was but it was pretty good.  Mom wasn't feeling the greatest but it was just a beautiful course and it was great to be with my mom.

After our race, we waited for Tara, Hope and Janny to finish. Tara snuck up on us and finished at 2:14!! She did awesome.  Janny and Hope had a rough race with a lot of nausea. I think the altitude really did a number on them, but they finished!! We were so proud of them.  Colby's grandma's house was right on the route of the half marathon so the family got to watch from there and then make it down to the finish line.  I want to be able to run it next year...or the year after that :) 13 miles is a long way!

After the races, we ate at a super yummy pizza place right across the street from Colby's grandma's house.  It was very delicious. Colby and Tara make it a point to always eat there when visiting Tropic.

When we drove home, I followed behind Mom and Dad to make sure everything was going okay with their car.  Everything turned out well....until they almost made it home and got rear-ended by a drunk driver at a stop light.  Itty-bitty sure had a rough 24 hours! What luck...or unluck I guess!
